The Delta Region
Home > Travel Planner > Delta

Bordering the Mississippi River, the area is dominated by rich, alluvial farmland. Take a leisurely drive along Crowley's Ridge Parkway, a National Scenic Byway, through upland hardwood forests, orchards, farms, four state parks and a wealth of recreational and historical resources. Along the way, visit Parkin Archeological State Park where you can explore Arkansas's Native American legacy and then visit the Delta Cultural Center, home to interactive and audio exhibits of Delta blues music.

Blues music is a large part of the region's heritage with the famous Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival held each October in Helena -- West Helena. Meanwhile, duck hunters migrate to the annual the World Championship Duck Calling Contest and Wings Over the Prairie Festival held over Thanksgiving.

And you will be thankful for the numerous chances to sample regional cuisine and local produce, shop in family-owned stores and galleries in the friendly, charming communities as you enjoy the easy flow of the Delta.
